What is burdock?

Burdock (scientific name: Arctium lappa L.), also known as: "Shi Shi", "vigorously", "Dongyang ginseng", also known as Dongyang bullwhip vegetables. More than one thousand years ago, Japan introduced and improved food from China. When Japan occupied Taiwan, it had requested a large number of local farmers in Tainan. The main reason was that Tainan had the pine sand soil at Zeng Wen Xi, the climate of the northern regressive line and the famous Ali Mountain extension, which made the local burdock more precious, and had been used as a vegetable in Taiwan. It has been eaten for many years, and it is known as the birthplace of burdock. The genus Platycodon, a biennial herb of the Compositae with broad ovate basal leaves, 30 cm long, 21 cm wide, most or few in the head like inflorescence or panicles of conical panicles, and the achenes long oval or oblique and long oval, flattened, and pale brown. The period of flower and fruit is 6-9 months. Mainly distributed in China, Western Europe, Kashmir, Europe and other places. The main producing area of burdock in China is distributed in Jiangsu and Shandong Province, Xuzhou Fengxian County and Peixian in Jiangsu Province, Cangshan in Shandong province has a long history and large scale.

Biennial herbs with large fleshy taproot, 15 cm long, 2 cm in diameter and branched roots. The achenes are long oval or skewed long ovate, 5-7 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, flattened, light brown, with most veins, with dark brown spots or no stains. The coat is many, light brown; the hairs are rigid, hairy, unequal, as long as 3.8 mm, and the base is not united, forming a ring. The period of flower and fruit is 6-9 months.
